sobrepeso.

Resumo em Inglês
This paper has as an objective to analyze the current pandemic of obesity and
overweight, taken as risk markers for many chronic diseases, from the
assumption that it comes to happen as a consequence of the way of living and
eating of the bureaucratic society of controlled consumption, that, under the
logic of the capital, has the space shaped in function of the consumption. By
using a bibliographic study, the research aims to demonstrate how different
factors contribute for the food to be consumed by their exchange value, and,
by becoming a commodity, is encouraged to the consumption in excess, which
brings about weight gain. Connecting them with the everyday life, the place
where the production of the social relations occurs, it is analyzed the case
of Oklahoma City, a county in the United States of America that exemplifies
an industrial city, an environment turned to consumption, and, because of
that, has one of the highest rates of obesity and overweight in the world.
However, initiatives were taken to fight them by means of an urban reform
oriented to the necessities of the population. Although the scenario wasn’t
reversed, the case illustrates the importance of considering the space of the
city as one of the measures in the fight against the adversity in question,
for the fulfillment of the possible urban society. According to Lefebvre,
only by the urbanization and the reacquisition of the right to the city it is
possible to overcome the everyday life and transform it. Yet, for that, it is
necessary to convert the capitalist system itself, and the impacts will only
be significant by means of an urban revolution, which confers the current
utopic characteristic to the solution for the obesity and overweight problem.
