Analisys of frequency distribution
Resumo em Inglês
This work presents a theoretical and comparative analisys of probabilistics methods with the
intend to prove the validity of the Grumbel method to estimate the flow measurement from
sizing spillways projects of small hydroeletrics, in other words, rate of flows relative to the return
period of 500 and 1000 years. Initially was made a brief bibliographic revision with the necessary
topics for the understanding of the subject that have yet to come. Secondly was implemented
a methodology of analisys that is divided in two steps: Theoretical analisys and comparative
tests. The theoretical analisys showed that, for a local analisys of frequences, the estimated
quality rely on the quality of the samples. Was also showed that a specific probabilistic method
that represents the distribution of frequency of the series of annualy maximun flow measurement
does not exist therefore is needed to pre-select distributions of extreme values that can represent
the series of flow measurement in question. So it is needed to use methods of adherence and
confidence intervals so that we can check which, of the distributions, will represent best the
distribution of empiric frequences in analisys. That being done, the stage of tests can begin, in
which were selected the Log Normal II, Log Normal III, Pearson III, Log Pearson III and Gumbel
models as candidate functions to represent the series of maximun flow measurement on 5 diferent
places in the state of São Paulo. The collected data came from the site of the Department of
Water and Eletrical Energy, this data is relative to 5 diferent places them being: São João,
Ferreira das Almas, Turvo, Ester plant and Americana Velha. For each sample, were built their
own series of maximum flow measurement and for each serie of flow measurement, were verified
which of the candidate distributions fits to assess the collected data to these samples. With the
distributions being selected is possible to estimate the flow measurement relative to the return
period of 2, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 10000 years along side with their respective confidence
interval and the comparison of the collected data. The test showed that the distribution with 2
parameters (Gumbel and Log Normal I) are more stable than the other 3, as the sizing of the
extreme outlets. This test also showed that dispite sometimes the 3 parameters distributions
beig accurate there are still a lot of incertitude due to the addition of a third parameter into
the distribution.
